Mod Data Policy

This Site does collect, store and process publicly available mod page data from the Nexus Mods API to be rendered in HTML pages for its users.

Data Source and Responsibility

This site retrieves mod page data for the purpose of generating a directory that is exclusively for Zeta mods.

All mods found on this Site are managed and provided by Nexus Mods and the respective authors. This Site only distributes what is readily available on the Nexus Mods website. This Site does not host mods, it only links back to their pages on Nexus Mods. The removal of mods, or changes made to them, are done so on nexusmods.com by those managing their pages, and will be reflected on this Site.

Data Usage

To build the Zeta mod directory, this Site uses a custom Ruby script, “zetamod.rb”, to send queries to Nexus Mods API. It is able to retrieve data for all Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain mods that are tagged with “Zeta”. In doing so, it will also retrieve partial info on the mod’s uploader, such as their name. Once all of the mods have been processed, the data is used for rendering pages for each category, containing each mod.

The mod page data that’s requested, acquired, and processed is as followed:

Automated Approval Process

There is an automated process in “zetamod.rb” that will reject Zeta mods if they meet the following criteria:

  • The mod was uploaded within the past 24 hours.
  • The mod has zero downloads or files.
  • The mod’s uploader registered on Nexus Mods within the past 5 days.
  • The mod, the author, and/or the uploader are blacklisted.

Mods that aren’t approved will be reprocessed the next time the Site is generated, unless it has been blacklisted. Under certain circumstances, mods, authors, and uploaders, will be blacklisted from the site for the following reasons:

  • Requested by Nexus Mods support, the mod’s original author and/or uploader.
  • Contains content that breaks Nexus Mods’ policies, including but not limited to their Terms of Service.

When a mod, author, or uploader is blacklisted, the Site will rebuild so that the related content no longer appears on it. Mod authors can be added to a whitelist so that their mods are automatically approved and published on the Site.

Data Retention & Opt-Out

The ZetaMGSV website is a static site that generates multiple times daily. No data is retained in between site builds.

If you’re an author, or uploader, and you’d like to opt-out your mods from the Site, please contact:

email: zipfslaw@zetamgsv.com

Future Changes

There are many crucial changes that could be made to the site, specifically “zetamod.rb”, in the near future:

  • Nexus Mods user authentication, to allow usage of Nexus Mod premium features.
  • Addition, or removal, of Nexus Mod services.
  • Add, modify, or remove conditions in mod approval.
  • Increase, or decrease, in frequency of Nexus Mods API requests.
  • The inclusion, or exclusion, of data from indexing for site searches. ( Mods used to be indexed, but were removed in favor of Nexus Mods search. )
  • Automatically approve mods from authors verifed by Nexus Mods. ( There’s code for this already, but needs to be reviewed. )
